"Dr Afzal's initiative offers exceptional and exciting opportunities for our Sixth Form Scientists to work at a level and in a dimension and environment that takes them way beyond the school laboratory and A Level syllabus. They are getting a real taste of what research means and are being encouraged to experiment in an independent, ground breaking way. So much more needs to be done in this country to encourage bright and talented young people, particularly girls, into science: this project has strengthened all the participants' resolve to pursue either science or medicine at university.
